Bangladesh contributes very little to the causes of climate change and pays a very high price for it. In Narail, that price is paid in eroded riverbanks, waterlogged fields, unpredictable rain and drinking-water sources that are no longer safe. Our environment programme works on what a community can actually control.
What we do
- Tree plantation drives in schools, roadsides, embankments and homesteads, with a survival check after one year — we count trees that live, not trees that are planted.
- Safe drinking water — tube-well installation and repair, water quality testing and household filters.
- Sanitation and hygiene — hygienic latrines, hand-washing stations and menstrual hygiene support in schools.
- Waste management and plastic reduction campaigns in markets, schools and community spaces.
- Disaster preparedness — early-warning volunteers, first-aid teams, safe shelter mapping and post-disaster response.
- Climate-smart practices: rainwater harvesting, homestead gardening, organic compost and flood-tolerant crop varieties.
How we work
Every activity starts with a community risk mapping session, in which villagers themselves mark the places that flood first, the households that are most exposed and the routes to safety. The plan that follows belongs to them.
Working with young people
School environment clubs are at the centre of this programme. Students run the nursery, monitor the trees and lead the clean-up campaigns — and take the habit home.
