Poverty in rural Bangladesh is rarely permanent — it is fragile. One accident, one bad harvest or one flood can undo years of effort. Our socio-economic development programme is designed around that fragility: it builds skills, small assets and savings so that a household has something to stand on when the shock comes.
What we do
- Vocational and skills training in tailoring, block-batik, mobile servicing, electrical work, computer operation, driving and beauty care.
- Start-up support for self-employment — sewing machines, tool kits, small stock for a shop, poultry and livestock.
- Savings and self-help groups that meet monthly, keep transparent accounts and lend to their own members for productive purposes.
- Job placement and apprenticeship linkage with local businesses and workshops.
- Winter and emergency relief — blankets, dry food, safe drinking water and shelter material after floods, cyclones and river erosion.
- Support for elderly, widowed and disabled people who cannot work, including help with government safety-net registration.
How we work
Training is short, practical and always followed by a starter package, because a certificate without a tool changes nothing. Every trainee is followed up for at least six months to see whether the skill actually turned into income.
Working with government
We help families claim what they are already entitled to — old-age allowance, widow allowance, disability allowance, VGD and VGF cards — by explaining the process and helping with the paperwork.
Our goal
To help poor and extremely poor households build a second source of income and a habit of saving, so that a single illness or flood cannot push them back into destitution.
