Bridging Rights and Capacities for Sustainable Change
Over the years, various initiatives were taken to empower marginalized communities, yet many failed to achieve lasting impact due to a lack of strategic direction, awareness, and inclusive practices. Realizing that true social transformation requires visionary leadership, collective awareness, and active community participation, a new journey was born.
On January 15, 2010, a dedicated group of passionate local youth from Agdia village and surrounding areas under No. 8 Kalora Union of Narail district gathered informally to address pressing social challenges. Driven by a vision of positive change, Bijoy Dey emerged as the pioneer of this movement, bringing community members together. Under his inspirational leadership and the collective effort of energetic youth, "Setu Bandhan Foundation" was established.
The organization was named by Bijoy Day and Champa Rani from Agdia village and co-founder Paritosh Bairagi from the neighboring Agdia Char village. The name 'Setu Bandhan' literally signifies ‘A Bridge to Access Rights and Capacities’. Since its inception, Bijoy Dey has played a central role as a member of the General and Executive Committees, guiding policy formulation, strategic planning, and organizational development.
Our beginning was humble and filled with challenges. The foundation started its administrative operations in a small tin-roofed room with basic furniture that could hardly accommodate 4 to 5 people. What was lacking in resources, however, was abundantly made up for by the unyielding determination, dedication, and voluntary spirit of its founders. Today, that small spark of hope has transformed into a impactful social movement, continuously working to protect rights, build capacities, and bring sustainable community development.
